Chocolate Cherry Almond Smoothie

Since lately my lifestyle has been pretty sedentary aside from my weekly physical therapy sessions (still waiting for that bum ankle to heal…), I opted out of chocolate cakes/brownies/souffles/molten lava cake and attempted to make something on the healthy-yet-still-delicious side. Amy and I have also noticed that we don’t have a solid arsenal of breakfast options on the blog… and chocolate for breakfast?? How dangerous and exciting!! So here is a semi-healthy CHOCOLATE smoothie for you.

You will need (for one serving):

1 cup fresh cherries, pitted
1 tbsp nutella
1 oz dark chocolate (I used two Ghirardelli dark chocolate squares)
1 cup soy milk (or regular milk)
6-8 raw almonds

Put all of the ingredients in the bowl of a food processor, process until smooth, pour into a glass and enjoy!

This isn’t QUITE as delicious as I would have liked… perhaps adding a banana or substituting plain yogurt for the soymilk/milk would help. But you still get a nice chocolate fix while eating a super quick protein-rich breakfast. Can’t complain too much!

  1. I agree with adding the banana, especially frozen! It makes it so creamy and sweet. I’d also use frozen cherries (or just freeze your fresh version for an hr), and I’d sub chocolate flavored milk or soy milk (or be even naughtier and use some chocolate frozen yogurt).
