We’re really getting down to the wire on the big day… If some of you are struggling with last minute gift ideas we figured we’d help you out with some DIY edible gifts.
I was perusing theKitchn.com for inspiration when I came across a recipe for candied bacon fudge… jackpot. Nothing says “I love you” more than a bacon-chocolate combo.
For a batch of about 20 squares you will need:
1 recipe fudge, whichever you like, I used the recipe for “my father’s fudge” from the kitchn.
1 recipe candied bacon — just 1/2 lb bacon, about 1/2 cup brown sugar.
First, make the candied bacon.
Lay the bacon out on a sheet tray lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle each piece generously (about 1-2 tbsp per slice) with brown sugar.
Put the bacon in a cold oven. Set the temperature to 350 and cook for 20-25 minutes, or until crisp, keeping an eye on it at the end.
Set that aside to cool while you make the fudge.
Once the fudge has cooled a bit and is starting to thicken, pour half into a prepared 8″ x 8″ pan lined with wax paper.
Crumble up the candied bacon and sprinkle it over top of the fudge in an even layer. I added a bit of fleur de sel as well!
Pour the remaining fudge over the top, and give it a solid 3 hours to set, or overnight before cutting into squares. Who wouldn’t want that for Christmas!
