A Tale of 5 Smoothies…

dsc_0050It’s smoothie week in our two kitchens.  There’s nothing like swimsuit season in the not too distant future (or an impending triathlon – Go! Hillary, Go!) to make you rev up your fitness game and clean up the ol’ eating habits.

Smoothies are a great option for an energetic boost in the AM, not to mention a time saving way to get your fill of fruits and veggies!  We already have a few tasty recipes here on at2k (Peach Almond, Cherry Chocolate Almond, Green Juice) but check back every day this week for even more nutrient packed options.

 

 

And for day 1…
The Green Machine
1 ½ cups water
1 cup romaine lettuce
1 cup spinach
1 bunch parsley
1 pear, cored and diced
½ banana
1 small bunch of cilantro
1/8 cup lemon juice
1/8 cup lime juice

Join all ingredients in a Vitamix (Amy’s new favorite toy she happily inherited from her Mom) or blender with the lettuce and fruit at the bottom.  Blend well until frothy.
